How Many Years Does a Nose Job Last?

A well-performed rhinoplasty is structurally permanent, with most patients enjoying stable, natural-looking results for 15 to 20 years or longer. However, your nose will continue to age with the rest of your face, and how well your results hold up over time depends less on the number of years that have passed and more on how well the surgery was done in the first place.

Rhinoplasty Longevity at a Glance

  • Structural Change: Permanent
  • Aesthetic Results: 15 to 20+ years, often a lifetime
  • What Still Changes: Skin thickness, tip support, and the natural aging process

What Makes Rhinoplasty Results Last?

Rhinoplasty changes the cartilage and bone that give the nose its form, rather than adding a temporary product to the skin, the way that a filler or cream would. In other words, there’s nothing to break down or dissolve that could reverse your results.

Not every surgery holds up the same way, though: Cartilage that’s only trimmed, without reinforcement, can weaken over time, while grafting techniques that support the remaining cartilage tend to hold their shape more predictably.

Does Rhinoplasty Last Forever?

“Forever” is a simpler word than the reality actually supports. While the foundational change is largely permanent, the aesthetic results are still subject to the aging process. Whether you’ve had nose surgery or not, your skin will still thin over time, and gravity may start to pull your nasal tip downward.

Your rhinoplasty after 20 years can still look as good as the day the splint came off, so long as it keeps pace with your face’s natural aging and keeps its structural integrity. Our rhinoplasty and aging page covers this in more detail, including how to help maintain your result over the decades.

How Long Does Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty Last?

A nonsurgical or “liquid” rhinoplasty typically lasts 12 to 18 months before a touch-up treatment is needed. This technique uses dermal filler to temporarily smooth a bump or adjust the nose’s contour, without touching the underlying structure.

A nonsurgical rhinoplasty is a reasonable starting point for patients who want to preview a change before committing to surgery. However, it isn’t a substitute for the lasting and more comprehensive results that come from surgical refinement.

What If Your Results Change Over Time?

Most rhinoplasty patients will enjoy their results for a lifetime, but a smaller group may choose to consider revision surgery years, if not decades, down the line. A consultation is the best way to determine whether a revision rhinoplasty could restore the balance and projection you’re after.

If you are at that stage, choosing the right surgeon for revision work matters even more than it did the first time, since revision surgery is technically more demanding than a primary procedure because of scar tissue, weakened internal structures, and other concerns.
