Labiaplasty in the Toronto Area
Many women consider labiaplasty to reduce physical discomfort, correct asymmetry, or restore confidence after childbirth or aging-related changes. At Ford Plastic Surgery, our team—including aesthetic gynecologic surgery specialist Dr. Meghan McGrattan—combines advanced surgical techniques with a patient-first approach to help women feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies.
What Is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes or reduces the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) for improved comfort and appearance. In some cases, the procedure can also alter the shape or size of the outer vaginal lips (labia majora). Women choose this procedure for a variety of functional and aesthetic reasons, including to:
- Relieve irritation during exercise, cycling, or intercourse
- Feel more confident in fitted clothing or swimwear
- Correct asymmetry or tissue changes caused by childbirth, aging, or genetics
- Restore comfort after trauma or previous surgery
When performed by an experienced, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon such as Dr. McGrattan, labiaplasty provides natural-looking, proportionate results while preserving sensitivity and function.
A Talented Trio

It can address concerns caused by childbirth, aging, or genetics and is ideal for women seeking improved comfort and confidence in daily life or intimate settings.

Your private consultation with Dr. McGrattan includes a:
- Discussion of your goals and comfort concerns
- Physical evaluation to determine candidacy

Dr. McGrattan customizes each treatment plan to your unique anatomy, ensuring that your results look natural, refined, and in harmony with your body.
How Is Labiaplasty Performed?
Labiaplasty is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or, in some cases, general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes 1 to 2 hours. Dr. McGrattan precisely reduces or reshapes the labia minora while maintaining natural contours and minimizing visible scarring.
There are 2 general approaches to reducing your labia (labia minora and/or labia majora):
- Trim procedure. With this approach, your surgeon removes excess tissue from the outer edge of one or both sides of your labia minora so that they’re even with or inside the edges of your labia majora.
- Wedge procedure. This technique involves removing a wedge or pie-shaped piece of tissue from the inner areas of one or both sides of your labia minora.
You’ll return home the same day, with detailed aftercare instructions to support a smooth recovery. Dr. McGrattan’s refined surgical technique is designed to preserve sensitivity and minimize postoperative swelling and discomfort.
Recovery and Results
Recovery is generally straightforward. Most women return to work or light activity within several days, with swelling resolving over 1 to 2 weeks. More vigorous exercise and intimacy can usually resume after about 4 to 6 weeks.
Once healed, you’ll notice:
- Enhanced comfort in clothing and physical activities
- A more balanced and symmetrical labial contour
- Renewed self-confidence in both daily life and intimate settings
Combining Labiaplasty With Other Procedures
For women who’ve experienced physical changes following pregnancy or childbirth, our plastic surgeons may combine labiaplasty with procedures such as a tummy tuck, breast lift or breast augmentation, and liposuction. This combination is often called a mommy makeover, which results in comprehensive transformation and balanced results customized to your goals.

Labiaplasty FAQs
Will labiaplasty affect sensation?
When performed by an experienced surgeon, labiaplasty should not reduce sensation. The goal is to improve comfort and appearance while maintaining full function and sensitivity.
Are there visible scars after labiaplasty?
Incisions are carefully placed within the natural folds of tissue, and scars typically fade to be nearly invisible over time. Proper aftercare and following your surgeon’s instructions will support smooth healing and the best cosmetic result.
How long do results last?
Labiaplasty results are long-lasting. While the natural aging process continues, the refined contour and improved comfort typically remain stable for many years.
Is the procedure confidential?
Absolutely. Your privacy and comfort are top priorities at Ford Plastic Surgery. All consultations and treatments are conducted with discretion in a professional, supportive environment.
